New Software Engineering Terms
(Real , Imaginary, and otherwise)
This page represents some of the research efforts of the WVU-Tech
CS Department in the educational area. Our current effort is
the mapping of local, and to a lesser extent regional, software
terms and dialects used in Central and Southern West Virginia.
Misconfeture
a) A correct solution to the wrong problem or
b) possible incorrect program operation detected after code
testing.
" Kel had a misconfeture in his program".
Obstillusion
A program object (or class) that appears to be different
than intended and seems to block successful project completion.
A physical equivalent would be an optical illusion that is in
the way of progress.
Accumpucky
The code that is added at the end of the coding cycle to smooth
out an other wise rough program. Performs like a salve or
ointment to sooth painful program operation.
Gawm
To make a mess of previously working program or pseudo code.
Bumbfuzzled
<currently unsure of definition>
Idjit
A blessing verbally given by a professor to a student while
explaining an obvious assignment error.
Groundhog Case
A term used by CS professors to describe a student
hopelessly below the passing grade mark that absolutely needs to
complete the course for a variety of reasons (graduation,
marriage, work, MOM, etc...)
Hoedjus
A programming assignment that attempts to fool the professor
into believing it is quality work.
Nummynoodle
A small software doflicky.
Doflicky
Similar to a nummynoodle.
MisConfusion
(as opposed to intentional confusion) To be in a state of
confusion for the wrong reason.
