Areas of Study


Home Prospective Home Areas of Study

Students in the Computer Science Program at WVU-Tech will focus on the following areas:


Mathematics:
Discrete Structures, Calculus I,  Calculus II,  Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Probability and Statistics,    Advanced CS Mathematics (applied statistics, data smoothing, and numerical methods)

Concepts of Programming Languages:
Computer Organization, Software Engineering, Programming Language Concepts, Compiler Design

Data and Information:
Data Structures, Data Base Management, Computer Networks

Advanced Course Work:
Systems Analysis and Design, Operating Systems, Statistical Computing , Senior Projects

Programming Languages:    
Computer Science I,  Computer Science II, Computer Languages
( JAVA and C++ are the primary languages. Visual Basic, Perl, ASP, PHP, Python, C#, plus other languages  are available)


Laboratory Sciences: 
   
Twelve credit hours (three courses with lab) chosen from Physics, Chemistry and/or Biology

Elective Computer Science Courses:
Cryptography, Computer Graphics,  Artificial Intelligence
(neural networks and fuzzy logic), Micro Controllers, VHDL, Differential Equations, Numerical Analysis, Special Topics (past courses included: network security, advanced networks, modeling and simulation, video game design, and others)
