Drivin' Through A Flood
sung to "Walkin' in Memphis"
by Carla L. Boos
Computer Science Student Extraordinaire

(The Flood of Fall 2003)

Hello. My name is Carla Boos and on Wednesday the 19th of November, I had a four-hour mis-adventure trying to get from Oak Hill to Tech. The only song I listened to on the radio during the drive was "Walkin' in Memphis", which really stuck in my mind because of the line 'in the middle of a pourin' rain'. So, when I finally got home, I got the idea to put my incredible failure to get to class into song. Here it is:

Verse I

Put on my school backpack
And I got in the car
I was headed for Montgomery Tech
But I never made it that far
Made it through mud and a
Creek that had overflowed
But down at Deepwater
They had closed the road
Drove back to Page-Kincaid
Only to find that there they'd
Done the same -- I was

Chorus

Drivin' through a flood
Drivin' with my wheels
Ten feet off the street
Drivin' through a flood
Back home in bed's
Where I oughta be

Verse II

Stranded at the Robson Fire Station
With another student who'd been dumb
But after the fear had faded away
I thought, "That was kind of fun"
So when a man came by and said
That there might be a detour
I grabbed up my school backpack
As I ran out the door

Chorus

Drivin' through a flood
Don't wanna be
An evacuee
Drivin' through a flood
But, gosh, the road
Looks like the sea

Verse III

I might make it home if I
Could get through Doonesborough Road
But I had barely started when I
Knew it should have been closed
The water was high
My car almost stalled
And I drove through a waterfall!

Chorus

Drivin' through a flood
Drivin' with the spray
Ten feet in the air
Drivin' through a flood
Oh, man, I
Haven't got a prayer

Verse IV

When I made it over the bridge
The roads were a lot better
But my heart still went faster than my car
And my socks had never been wetter
When I finally made it home
My Mom asked if I'd been wise
I looked her in the eye
Grinned real big and said,
"Hey, at least I survived!"

Chorus

Drivin' through a flood
Drivin' with my wheels
Ten feet off the street
Drivin' through a flood
Back home in bed's
Where I'm gonna be.
